In 2012, we will have 7 active teams in the Lacrosse Victoria competition; U11s, U13s, U15s, U17s, A Grade and State League.
Our State League and B Grade teams are reigning 2012 Premiers, with B Grade now progressing to A Grade. Our Under 17 team were Grand Final runners up.
We look forward to build on our previous successes throughout the 2012 season.
Lacrosse Victoria will be continuing the VicLax initiative for the Under 11 girls this year.
Simply put, it is an AusKick-style program where players from all clubs come together and are coached by a group of coaches.
As is done with state team trials, players will be divided into groups and rotated through stations of different activities/skills. At the end of the rotations, a short game is played.
VicLax will run for 6 weeks before reutnring to our normal home and away games for the remaining 8 games.
It would be fantastic that all Under 11 players and paretns get behind this program and give it a go!
VicLax gives our kids the opportunity to mix with players from other clubs, learn and enjoy a wider variety of skills and experience the type of program older age groups enjoy when trialing for state teams.
VicLax will be held at the same time every Sunday morning at the usual club locations for the first two weeks, then the last 4 weeks will be split into two venues - east and west. Locations will be announced shortly.
Club training will continue as usual throughout the year.
VicLax will be a fun, intensive activity focused on maximising player involvement. It will provide a great opportunity for skill development and for introducing new players to lacrosse.
The 2011 Under 13 Team ended the season 2nd on the ladder and played Williamstown in the Preliminary Final, where they lost 5-1. They ended their season with 9 wins and 5 losses. Great job girls!

The 2011 Under 15 Team has a tremendous season with the Top 4 teams (Footscray, Eltham, Williamstown) battling it out for pole position. The girls finished the season with 10 wins, 4 losses and 4 ties including a 5- game winning streak in the final 5 weeks of the regular season! The team's first loss since June 5 was on August 21 in a heartstopping overtime loss to Williamstown in the Semi Final. Congratulations on a fabulous season!

The 2011 Under 17 Team had another successful season. After a hard- faught season against rivals Footscray, the girls once again made the Grand Final. In only their 6th loss of the season, they lost gallantly, 14-6. Congratulations girls!

After a rocky start to the season, B Grade pulled it together and won every game after their 7-12 loss to Altona on May 29, to go on a 11-game winning streak and ultimately win the 2011 Premiership. Following their 15th Premiership win, they have now moved into A Grade... Way to go girls!

Following a 8 goal loss to Footscray in Round 1, it was thought that 2011 would be a rebuilding year for Newport's State League team. However, after their second loss to Footscray in Round 4 the girls only lost one more game for the entire season. The transformation of this team was astonishing, and for the 39th consecutive season our State League team made the Grand Final and won an unprecidented 21st premiership!
